Raleigh Memorial Day Celebrations

Memorial Day is a time to remember men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice while protecting our country. There are many events to attend around the Raleigh area that are family friendly and free.


Freedom Balloon Fest Zebulon and RaleighRaleigh & Zebulon – Freedom Balloon Fest

DATE: Friday May 22nd – Monday May 25th
TIME: Friday 3-9pm, Saturday and Sunday 6am-10am & 3pm – 9pm, Monday 6am – 10am
LOCATION: Spring Forest Road Park in Raleigh and Bennett Bunn Plantation in Zebulon

This is the first festival in this area in 25 years, bringing pilots from around the nation. More than 40 balloons will light up the sky at Spring Forest Park in Raleigh and Bennett Bunn Plantation in Zebulon for free viewings and $15-$20 tethered rides.

There will be a mass ascension at Bennett Bunn Plantation on Friday from 3pm – 9:30pm. The balloons will glow brightly while floating in the evening sky.

Project Uplift caters to riders with mobility challenges. It will be available during special events Thursday and Friday and at the Zebulon location for the general public Saturday and Sunday. Pilots will take elderly and those with disabilities, especially veteran groups, up in a handicap-accessible basket, which features straps to secure a wheelchair and a plexiglass door for the rider to view the scenery.

Historic Oakwood Cemetery - Field of HonorDowntown Raleigh – Historic Oakwood Cemetery’s Annual Memorial Day Service

DATE: Monday May 25th
TIME: 4pm – 5pm
LOCATION: Historic Oakwood Cemetery’s Field of Honor

It’s a chance to reflect on the sacrifices made by fellow Americans and to thank those that served and continue to serve our country. This service has beautiful music, patriotic themes and takes place in the beautiful Field of Honor.

Veterans memorial park caryCary – Memorial Day Remembrance

DATE: Monday May 25th
TIME: 2:30pm – 3:30pm
LOCATION: Veterans Freedom Park

Veterans Freedom Park in Cary, NC will have a patriotic ceremony, music by the Cary Town Band, and speakers from local organizations.
